am extremely excited to bring you this special look at all the awesome films
set to come out this year!!! From the return of old beloved franchises, latest
YA installments, and current favorites, in the words of Gwen Stefani, this
year’s movie line up is B-A-N-A-N-A-S!!! With so much coming out this year, it
took me a while but I finally compiled my top 10 upcoming films for the New
Year. Without further delay, let’s get the breakdown…..

Sci-fi is at the forefront of this year’s crop of movies and the Wachowski brothers’ thrilling space opera is no exception. Serving as their first sci fi film in 11 years since The Matrix. Jupiter Ascending tells the story of a lowly house keeper who finds out she is intergalactic royalty. Though she is entitled to earth, she have to fight for what is hers when the next available heir Belem come to claim Earth for his own. Mila Kunis, Channing Tatum, Eddie Redmayne, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, and Sean Bean take to the stars in this cosmic adventure that is sure to be a universal joy ride.

After stopping a homicidal genocide among her five faction
society, Tris Prior and Tobias Eaton find themselves on the run as fugitives
from justice. Serving as the next installment of the trilogy, The Divergent Series: Insurgent sees the
return of Tris Prior as she tries to find answers to why being Divergent is
such a threat to her world. Stumbling out of the gate is the choice of words I would
use to describe Divergent last year. The good news is, the folks at Summit
Entertainment seem to have made an effort to knock the next instalment out of
the park. Offer bigger action, scale, and drama. Insurgent will have major pressure
on it this year for it could be the very thing that determines whether the
series deserves the title of “the next Hunger Games”.

After a successful mission bring down heist master Owen
Shaw, Dominic Toretto and company finally gained the freedom they long for
since becoming US fugitives. Unfortunately, it seems that Owen has another
half. Ian Shaw, older brother of Owen, didn’t seem to take his brother death so
well. He soon begins to hunt down the various members of Dom’s team starting
with the murder of Han in Tokyo. Dom must now protect the little family he has
left and put it all on the line for one last ride. Vin Diesel, Tyrese Gibson,
Ludacris, Jason Statham, and Paul Walker, in his final film appearance, star in
the next chapter of the high octane action franchise. The scale and over the
topness has never been higher as the stakes of these movies continue to be
raised. Probably best to buckle up tight for this one.

Being a full time superhero is a tough job, especially when
you rarely get any off days. After dealing with their own personal life
changing battles, earth’s mightiest heroes are back together keeping the world
safe. But, doom son comes walking in when a powerful and nearly indestructible being
awakens and threatens to obliterate the human race. Tony Stark, Steve Rodgers,
Thor, Black Widow, Bruce Banner, Hawkeye, and the mysterious Maxinoff twins
Pietro and Wanda, must band together to combat this evil force that threatens
their very existence of human kind. As if Marvel didn’t already come off a big
year at the movies in 2014, the studio that brought you Captain America: The
Winter Soldier and Guardians of the Galaxy, bring you the next chapter in the
Avengers saga with Age of Ultron.
Chris Evans, James Spader, Robert Downey Jr, Elizabeth Olsen, Arron Taylor
Johnson, and others assemble for one of the year’s most anticipated films as
returning writer and director Joss Whedon gives earth’s mightiest heroes their
most sinister and deadliest villain yet.

What if there was a place where anything was possible? In that area between time and space lies Tomorrowland. When a young girl and a former genius prodigy travel to that world they go on a life changing adventure where everything they do affects them and the world around them. Based off the Walt Disney attraction of the same name, Academy Award winner George Clooney and Under the Dome’s Britt Robertson star in this sci-fi mystery film directed by Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol’s Brad Bird. Expect mystery, wonder, and excitement as a world of endless possibilities come to life.

After years of failed attempts and countless deaths, things seem to finally be looking up for the prehistoric theme park now known as Jurassic World. With dozens of visitors and tourist arriving year round, Jurassic World is one of the planet’s premier theme park attractions. However, attendance is starting to wither and the head of the park decides that the best option is to do something to bring the people back. The solution for this issue is to create a genetically modified hybrid with multiple DNA signatures of various Dinosaurs. It’s a new unknown species with untapped potential, limitless intelligence, and killer instinct. What could go wrong? Safety Not Guaranteed director Colin Trevorrow brings moviegoers back to the dino theme park. Starring Guardians of the Galaxy’s Chris Pratt and The Help’s Bryce Dallas Howard, Jurassic World looks to bring back the wonder, the awe, and the terror of the classic film for a new generation to embrace as their own.

allies, Thomas, Teresa, Newt, Minho, and the other gladers embark on an even
more daunting and dangerous journey known as Phase 2 aka “The Scorch Trials”.
The Maze Runner II: The Scorch Trials sees Dylan O’ Brien, Kaya Scodalario, Ki Hong Lee, and Thomas Brodie-Sangster return
in the second instalment of the Maze Runner series. New cast members including
Rosa Salazar, Nathalie Emmanuel, Giancarlo Esposito, and Lili Taylor join the
sci-fi post-apocalyptic thriller that has quietly caught people’s attention but will
have to deliver a knock out second “running” to be considered as a YA adaption
elite.

War takes a lot out of a human being both physically and
psychologically. Katniss Everdeen is no exception. Having caused chaos among
the capitol and spreading hope across the districts, Katniss has all eyes on
her as a true symbol of both hope and unrest. With her best friend and lover
Peeta Mellark reduced to a maniacal mental patient and nearly all the districts
in Panem on the side of the rebellion, the pieces are in place to take the
fight to the capitol with one goal in mind: TAKE DOWN SNOW!!!! With her friends
at her side and a nation in her corner, Katniss spreads her wings and elects to
become the hero that Panem needs…no matter the personal cost. Serving as the
final chapter in the global phenomenon, The
Hunger Games Mockingjay: Part 2 brings the story of the girl on fire to a
thrilling and emotional close. Given the lack of action in the previous
installment, best believe the concluding chapter will offer some of the best
action of the series and solidify the franchises’ place among Hollywood’s best.

A decade has passed since we were in that galaxy far far away. Since then, a lot has changed. The empire has fallen but still existent, the rebel alliance has become the shining beacon of hope, and apparently, there are now cross guarded light sabers. A new chapter is about to unfold as the Star Wars universe makes it’s much anticipated return in Star Wars: the Force Awakens. Star Trek and Star Trek Into Darkness director J.J Abrams brings the Star Wars universe back to the big screen alongside some old and new faces. Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, and Carrie Fisher return with newcomers John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Oscar Issac, and Andy Serkis to usher in a new era of Star Wars goodness. No question about it, the force has awakened and it is strong with this one.
