The 3rd Annual
2015 Summer Movie Season Awards
By: Brandon Porter
Hello Followers!!! We are just a
few weeks into the fall movie season, but I wanted to take this opportunity to
acknowledge what a whirl wind Summer Movie Season it has been. From big action,
big laughs, and big bucks, the 2015 silver screen play ground has been nothing
short of amazing. As we prepare for the arrival of the Oscar contenders as well
as the fall and winter mega blockbusters, let’s acknowledge the players who
made this SMS one to remember.
Best Animated Feature (Inside Out)
Pixar Animation Studios had the comeback story of the summer with the hilarious, beautifully animated,
and emotionally substance filled masterpiece Inside Out. An incredible
collection of talent from the voice actors to the animators, Inside Out is not
only the best animated movie of summer 2015 but one of Pixar’s best films if
not one of the best films of the year. This surely fills me up with so much
JOY!!!
Best Summer Movie Actor (Chris Pratt)
Master builder, Galactic Guardian,
and now…raptor tamer!!! If you want to talk about a guy who has the it factor in
Hollywood right now, then Chris Pratt fits the bill. No one has had the two
year blow up that Pratt has had. Between Guardians of the Galaxy and this
years’ box office gargantuan Jurassic World, good fortune as well as talent are
what are used to describe the most bankable man in Hollywood. All eyes are on
him as he continues his skyrocketing road to superstardom
Best Summer Movie Actress (Rebecca Ferguson)
Sleek, sexy, mysterious, and just a
straight up badass! Mission Impossible Rogue Nation's hard to read antihero
caught many people’s attention with her stand out performance in the recent
critically acclaimed espionage thriller. She displays a talent that is the
perfect balance and sexuality and deep layered substance. If she continues her
progression, she might find herself teaming with another group of highly
skilled teammates. Earth’s Mightiest Heroes perhaps?
Best Musical (Straight Outta Compton)
Hard beats, unquestionable flow,
and an unapologetic commentary of the world they live in, F. Gary Gray’s biopic
of the infamous hip hop group NWA took the world by storm and became one of the
most talked about films of the summer. A collection of talented young actors
and one of the best black directors in Hollywood today helped tell the story of
the most influential and fearless groups in the history of the genre.
Best Studio (Universal Pictures)
I don’t think I have to stress to
you all the type of year that Universal is having right now. With already
receiving the biggest box office numbers in the year including having three
(two in this year's summer movie season) of the four $1 billion dollar movies,
Universal is having a year to remember with no signs of slowing down.
Best Super Hero Movie (Ant-Man)
Two things to know about this best
super hero movie award recipient that won’t and will surprise you. Yes: it’s a
Marvel Studios and NO: it’s not Avengers: Age of Ultron. To everyone’s
surprise, the superhero movie of the summer is not the assembling from May but
rather the big hero who is small in stature. Ant-Man may not have had the box
office boom that Avengers did, but the MCU heist movie had the uniqueness, the
heart, and the charm to become the “biggest” and most pleasant surprise this
summer. Looking forward to seeing Scott Lang team up with earth’s mightiest
heroes for the start of Phase 3.
Best Action Movie (Terminator Genisys)
Out of all the action movie this
summer, Terminator Genisys gave audiences a fun and nostalgia filled thrill
ride that respected its roots and created a foundation for this next gen
collection of films. Emilia Clarke and Arnold Schwarzenegger do work in this
thrilling reboot that creates an alternate timeline for the fate of humanity.
Maybe this time around, SkyNet can be stopped.
Most Underrated Movie (Tomorrowland)
We go into movie trying to escape
the world we live in. But rarely does a movie motivate you to work toward
making that world a better place than the one you fanaticize about in books,
games, and movies. Tomorrowland despite its terrific message didn’t thrill the
action hungry movie goers of the box office. That being said, that is actually
what makes the film so special. It isn’t trying to be a sci fi action spectacle
but a wakeup call for the dreamers looking to use their gifts to make the world
into something greater. The future is in good hands as long as those dreamers
know how to feed the right wolf.
And now...the top award for the 2015 summer movie season goes to!!!.......
Movie of the Summer (Jurassic World)
The park opened and it was a sight
to behold…with the exception of the escaped hybrid, pteranodon legion, massive
destruction, and inevitable lawsuits that will soon emerge afterwards. Despite
the amass chaos, the newest installment of the Jurassic Park franchise offered
the most respectfully done nostalgia fest in recent memory. Filled with the
same wonder that made the 1993 classic so memorable with some of the best
action seen in the franchise, Jurassic World rightfully roars to the top to
become not just the summer’s best sci-fi movie the Summer’s Top Film. Life will
always find a way.
I want to thank each and every one
of you all for supporting the blog once again this year. Your support drives me
to continue. Now, just because the summer is over doesn’t mean I’m done
posting. Stayed tuned later this year for more post including special post
involving two very special films I’m extremely excited about. Until next summer
followers, have a happy and safe fall and winter.
