Happy National Cinema Day followers!!! As we celebrate the art of going to the movies, We are also celebrating the transition from summer to fall. With Labor Day weekend in full swing, the time has come to put a bow on another Summer Movie Season. It has been a very eventful SMS with the promise of an even bigger one on the horizon next year. (Seriously guys, the 2023 SMS is going to be bananas but more on that later) For now, I think it is a good time to give out some awards highlighting some of the best moments and theatrical experiences we shared over the course of this year's summer cinematic bonanza. Let’s go over the recipients of this year’s summer movie season awards!!!
Best Summer Movie Actress
There weren’t many women this year that could garner such sympathy and admiration. Especially when you consider the fact that they imprisoned a small town and was willing to sacrifice a life of a child to reunite with her “long lost” children that were technically never hers to begin with. Elizabeth Olsen catapulted yourself into superstardom with her electric performance as Wanda Maximoff in the highly anticipated MCU installment Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Her complete relentless coupled with her emotional vulnerability made her such a sympathetic antagonist and cemented her as one of the best MCU villains in Phase 4. She is a witch to many but to others, she’s queen.
Best Summer Movie Actor
For a man who has been in the game for so long, it’s hard to believe Tom Cruise has hit the ultimate milestone this late. Headlining film that is regarded as one of the best films of not just the summer but of the 2020s, Tom Cruise proved to the world that he is one of the most fearless, dedicated and tenacious cinematic stars of all time. There will never be another quite like him and that’s better for everybody.
Best Superhero Movie
Expectations can be a powerful but costly thing to put on a movie. For the sequel to the 2016 introduction of the sorcerer supreme, the film delivered a full on action romp delivered in both heartfelt emotion and genuine terror. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness became a summer fire starter and a showstopper of an MCU endeavor that introduced of a new character in America Chavez, one of the best villains in the MCU in scarlet witch, and added complex emotional layers to Stephen Strange. It may not be everybody’s cup of tea, but for me it is just what the doctor ordered.
Best Animated Movie
A lot of conversations stemmed from Pixar’s definitive origin story surrounding one of their most beloved characters. Filled with references and callbacks to the Toy Story franchise, this sci-fi action adventure delivered fun and entertainment on an intergalactic scale. The galaxy is in good hands with Buzz and the space ranger corps protecting the worlds above.
Movie of The Summer
Few movies this summer captured the essence of the season like the sequel to one of the most iconic films of the 1980s. A nostalgia filled roller coaster ride from start to finish brimming with dedicated performances, white knuckle action, and pristine cinematography, Top Gun Maverick truly is top billing as one of the best summer movies of the modern era.
