If anyone deserves a good amount of credit for the films
being exceptionally accurate with the source material, it’s producers Nina
Jacobson and Jon Kilik. Nina Jacobson and Jon Kilik has shown tremendous
respect for the story as shown in their work behind the scenes. From casting,
to hiring directors, to reaching out to Suzanne herself, Nina and Jon are the
true “game makers” of this beloved franchise. Safe to say, the series would not
be the way it is today without them.
The man who started the franchise with his extremely
polished background in screen writing and directing, Gray Ross took the task of
starting the series head on and delivered big time. Despite not having a
background in action, Ross chose to focus more on the inner substance of the
first book and in a way, that decision helped establish the film’s tone and
feel which benefited the movie greatly. His respect, understanding, and attention to
detail for the film's message and content laid the foundation for the series to
build on as it began its inevitable rise to fame.
After it was confirmed that Gary Ross would not be returning
for the second installment much to fans dismay, Nina Jacobson and Jon Kilik
passed the torch to newcomer Francis Lawrence. Despite initial skepticism,
Lawrence quickly established himself as a more than worthy replacement.
Building on the tone and emotion set by Gary Ross in the first installment,
Lawrence built on that foundation while also adding the visual flair that was
desperately needed for the second film. Behind his confident directing and cool
under pressure demeanor, Francis delivered in the second installment
and continued his formula in the two part finale. At the end of the day,
Francis Lawrence was the right man at the right time to help take the series to
the next level.
Without this woman, there would be no Katniss, there would
be no Hunger Games, and there would be nothing to inspire a generation of young
people letting them know their voices matters. The spirited writer and down to
earth woman has created a world and a character that has captured the attention
of everyone around the world. She gave birth to this phenomenon and she is the
true girl on fire of this incredible story that will be remembered for
years to come.
The incredibly articulate, wise, and talented veteran actor
perfectly captured the calm essence and sinister demeanor of President Snow.
Sutherland has become one of the key cast members to deliver a standout role in
the film. He will always be remembered as perfectly portraying the demented
leader of Panem.
With her high heels, loud outfits, chipper attitude, and
warm heart, Effie Trinket is arguably one the fan favorites in the book and the
films. Elizabeth Banks brings the character to life in such a great way thanks
to her dedication to the role and her passion for the trilogy. It’s nothing but
chins up smiles on as we salute our favorite capitol queen. The illustrious
Effie Trinket.
What more can be said for arguably one of the most loved and
tragically doomed characters in the entire series. Amandla Stenberg stood out
completely and instantly made the audience fall in love with her playful
nature, her shyness, and sweetness. It was those qualities that made her death
scene one of the most powerful moments in the franchise and in this decade of
cinema. A talented actress delivered a stellar performance that will be
remembered for years to come.
The rock legend transformed into Katniss' most trusted
stylist and loyal friend. Kravitz already had a solid background in acting
prior to taking the role but perfectly portrayed the kindness, bravery, and
boldness of such a mysterious and beloved character.
If there was an award for best scene stealer, Jena Malone
would be the automatic choice. The talented actress portrayed the fiery and
abrasive district 7 victor with pristine character and incredible dedication.
Malone really set the tone from the first time she appeared on screen showing a
more detailed and sensual version of Johanna Mason. At this point, no one else
could have played role other than her.
Despite early controversy about his casting, Sam Claflin
took the challenge of playing the fan favorite tribute and delivered an
all-around great performance. His dedication to the role was shown in
Mockingjay Part 1 when he was required to show the more vulnerable side of
Finnick and really knocked it out of the park. He is one of the big surprises
in the series and I’m proud of him for bringing one of the best characters to
life in a great way.
Liam Hemsworth’s progression has coincided with his
character’s growing role in the story. Little by little, he has become more and
more like the hardened soldier dedicated to the cause even if it means showing
little remorse for those who stand in his way. Hemsworth has portrayed Gale’s
transformation extremely well and I couldn’t be happier for his success and
dedication to playing this character. A salute to Solider Gale Hawthorne.
In a strange way, Peeta Mellark and Josh Hutcherson might
actually be the same person (that is before the hijacking). Josh stated early
on about how much he loved the book series and that Peeta was a role he was
itching to play from the start. Humble, kind, nurturing, and lovable like his
character, I have seen the true potential of Hutcherson’s talent and see him
having a very long and prosperous career after the franchise ends. Not bad for
a boy who cooks bread.
The flamboyant and disturbingly energetic talk show host was
brought to life by the sheer brilliance of Stanley Tucci. With his wild hair,
laugh, and personality, Tucci brought this character to life is such a terrific
way making him one of the most memorable characters in the series. The host
with the most deserves a standing ovation all his own.
And Finally the Most Important Cast Member of the Franchise
As the most sought
after actress of this generation, Jennifer Lawrence has perfectly captured the
essence of Suzanne Collins’ strong willed protagonist. Lawrence perfectly
displays Katniss' strength, resolve, leadership, and bravery to make Katniss
Everdeen one of the most influential and iconic female characters in the
history of modern cinema. A three finger salute to Jennifer Lawrence: The
ULTIMATE GIRL ON FIRE!!!
But Of Course Who Can Forget The Most Important Aspect of The Series.....
THE FANS!!!! |
No one is more important to this series than the Hunger
Games fans. As a fan myself, I am truly honored and proud to share this amazing
journey with arguably, the best fans in the movie business. From the premiers,
the panels, and the midnight screenings, The Hunger Games fan base is truly a
force to be reckoned with showing passion for this story and these characters.
I have nothing but love and respect for these amazing individuals who have made
this franchise one to remember.
The unforgettable inciting incident that set in motion the
coming events that as she thrust herself into the arms of certain death to save
the one she loved most.
One of the most powerful and devastating scenes of the
franchise and possibly cinema, Katniss tearfully bids farewell to the gentle
spirited tribute Rue while unintentionally lighting the initial spark of
rebellion.
Upon learning that the conditions were revoked, Katniss and
Peeta make a bold statement that puts the Capitol in a very compromising
position.
The first stop on the 74th victory tour opened
the eyes of Katniss to the cruelty of the Capitol and saw firsthand how her
actions affected those around her.
Just hours before going into the arena, Katniss shows off
her Wedding dress unaware that her stylist and friend Cinna made a statement of
his own for the world to see.
Upon surviving a vicious attack from the capitol, Katniss
angrily expresses her anger and sends a clear and distinct message to her
nemesis.
While resting after a long day of propo shooting, Katniss
serenades the group and the Mockingjays around her with the forbidden melody
that further inspires the nation to take action.
It has been an unforgettable 4 years of memories and I am lucky to call myself a hunger games fan and experienced this incredible story. Enjoy the final chapter of The Hunger Games and remember….THE ODDS WILL ALWAYS BE IN YOUR FAVOR!!!!!
