Critical and Financial Analysis

Hailed as on of the most anticipated films of the year, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 had a substantial amount of hype around it. Reuniting fans with beloved chracters and settings, Guardians was poised for greatness right from the jump. When the film was finally released, it soared to heights like a MCU movie should.  The film conjured up an impressive $145 million domestically with an additional  $282.6 million overseas for a $427.6 million worldwide haul. Critically, the scored a solid but surprisingly low critical score of 81% certified fresh via rotten tomatoes which is a 10% drop off from the previously film while it scored a more positive score from the audience who awarded it a strong 90%. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 looks to have delivered a great second chapter and another awesome installment into the MCU. Some see it as a great sequel while others see it as a letdown compared to the first one. Despite the different opinions, GOTG Vol 2 kicks off the SMS in explosive fashion.

That looks like fun....

Film Review

As one of the most anticipated films of the year, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 was no question at the top of my must see list. As a fan of the surprisingly spectacular first film, I was eager to see how the second installment would build on that momentum as well as standout amongst the most recent MCU installments since than. Finally, after seeing the movie, I can conclude that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 is a terrific second adventure of the cosmic heroes. The movie had a lot of eyes and expectations on it after the first film became such a surprise cultural sensation. Vol 2 offers all the things that made the first such a hit while delivering a plethora of things necessary to be a great sequel. The original team all come back and delver in their second go around as the characters. Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, and Dave Bautista are solid in their sophomore efforts while Baby Groot and Rocket are the true standouts among the principal cast. One of my biggest positives of the film are the development of two characters. One of whom being Yondu. He was a favorite of mine in the first film and he is developed wonderfully in this second film. You learn more about his past and his story arc in this film quite honestly makes him arguably one of the best characters in the MCU. Nebula has her share of development as well offering more layers to the character not seen in the first movie. As for the new additions, Pom Klamentiff is a welcome addition to the MCU. Her innocent personality and presence make for a promising start for the character's journey. The film does have plenty of entertainment value such as hilarious dialogue and fun action sequences but the film's emotion meter, which is cranked up compared to the first film, is the real standout element of the movie. The first film had its share of heart tugging moments but Volume 2 offers even more emotional firepower creating a moving final act that really delivers. In the end, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 did everything it was supposed to do to be a better sequel. Though it doesn't have that mantle of being the best film in Marvel Phase 3, it stands out in more ways than one to really shine amongst its cinematic brethren.

Rating and Final Thoughts

A emotionally superior second chapter that still offers the same fun, hilarity, and charm that has defined
these cosmic defenders of the Marvel Cinematic Universe

Nothing like a sweet and delicious treat to kick start your summer season.
