For the citizens of Asgard, it was supposed to be a cause for celebration after avoiding the destruction of their home thanks to their king Thor. That moment of relief was short lived as Thanos and his forces layed waste to half the surviving population.
Even making making quick work of the mighty hulk
Upon announcing his presence, Thanos proved his might by murdering Heimdall, and disposing of his former pawn Loki.
After retrieving the space stone from the Tesseract, Thanos and his black order fled the ship leaving an emotionally broken Thor alone to deal with the aftermath of the bloodshed.
Counting that his daughter Gamora would be trying to get the next stone before he would, Thanos headed to Knowhere to retrieve the reality stone from The Collector. After retrieving the stone, he apprehended his adoptive daughter after incapacitating her friends and pshycing out her love Peter Quill. Gamora was an important element of his quest for her role in the hunt was instrumental in what came next.
Coming back to his base, Thanos was determined to pry information from Gamora. After torturing her sister Nebula, Gamora relented and gave up the location of the Soul Stone on the planet Vormir.
Awaiting them was the Hydra nationalist Red Skull who was transported here via the Tesseract. Leading them to the place where the stone was located, Thanos realized the value of the Soul Stone. In order to get it, you must sacrifice a soul for a soul.
Knowing the meaning of the requirement and determined to see it through, he heart breakingly sacrifices Gamora and gets the stone in return.
With one more gem but at the cost of his daughter's life, Thanos pushes on with only 2 stones left to claim.
The fight for the time stone proved to be a much more taxing task for Thanos. Returning to his homeworld of titan, he is met by several Avengers and a number of Gamora's guardians of the galaxy. The battle seemed to be going in the Avengers favor as they successfully managed subdue him into submission.
However, the tide quickly turned back to Thanos' favor when Nebula reveals the fate of Gamora much to Starlord's sorrow and rage.
This act of impulsiveness allowed Thanos to seize control of the fight and throw everything he had at the Avengers
...and I mean everything!!!
After besting Doctor Strange and near fatally stabbing Tony Stark, Strange in an act of sacrifice surrendered the time stone to the mad titan giving him the opportunity to turn his attention to Earth to retrieve the final gem.
Upon his arrival, Thanos' resolve was too strong for anyone in his way. One by one, Thanos tossed each hero aside as he marched his way to Vision. Despite a herculean effort from Wanda Maximoff who successful destroyed the mind stone, Thanos used the time stone to reverse the explosion and extract the stone killing vision as a result. With all the stones in his possession, Thanos applied the Soul Stone and completed the Gautlet Basking in its power. The moment of triumph was short lived as Thor tossed his weapon Stormbreaker into the chest of the mad titan. As the blade drove deeper into his heart, Thanos losing cociousness uttered words to the God of thunder.
"You should have gone for the head."
With one single snap, the end result broke everyone both emotionally and physically
When all was said and done, Earth's Mightiest Heros had lost more than just the battle. They saw only a fraction of the devastation left by the mad titan's rampage. In the end, everything they knew, everyone and everything they loved...had turned to dust.
Now able to rest and reflect on his doings as he looks out a universe that he believes is all the better.
Little is know what will happen when the Avengers strike back at their greatest advesary. But one thing is certain..the universe may never be the same...
Tonight, the ultimate battle comences and culmination of ten years of storytelling bring this 20+ film arc to a close. To those seeing it tonight, enjoy everything it has to offer and remember....
