Re-Porter Blog: Top 10 Upcoming Films for 2019

Happy New Year Followers!!! I hope your first day of 2019 has gone well. A new year brings new beginnings, new goals and of course new movies. And boy does this year have an insane roster of flicks!!!! It seems every month is gonna bring a potentially awesome cinematic hit!!! There is so much to go over so let's not waste any more time. In this post, we will highlight the top storylines heading into 2019 and we'll close out with my top 10 upcoming movies for 2019. Buckle up cause we are in for a wild rundown.

Top Storylines for 2019

Hollywood has long tried to successfully adapt popular anime properties into live action. Unfortunately, the majority of all of them fail miserably making the task all the more taxing. This year, two films will try their best to break that streak. Alita Battle Angel, due out in February, brings the popular manga to life with the help of producers Jon Landau and James Cameron as well as director Robert Rodriguez. The unique visual style and fast-paced action and flair make this an intriguing film heading into the new year. But the biggest and probably the most anticipated movie in all of this is Warner Bros' live-action Pokemon film Detective Pikachu which has Ryan Reynolds in the title role. Serving as the first-ever live action Pokemon film, the expectations are high to turn this into a fun and heartfelt movie. If all goes well, these films could not only establish new franchises but also show that live action anime adaptations can be quality and worth the price of admission.

It may be an understatement that this year has a plethora of blockbusters in their lineup. The majority of which belong to the mouse house. Marvel, Lucasfilm, Disney Animation Studios, Disney Live Action, and Pixar have some of the year's most anticipated films and promise to dominate the silver screen all year long. One thing for sure, there will be plenty of magic in store for moviegoers in the coming months.

2019 will see the conclusion of the current era of two current eras of massive franchises. The MCU will wrap up Phase 3 with part 2 of The Russo Brothers' Avengers Infinity War story. Then in December, the Skywalker Saga will conclude with Star Wars Episode 9 which will pick up the story after 2017's The Last Jedi and close the book on the sequel trilogy. Both these franchises have thrilled audiences throughout the decade and will now take their final bow and make way for the next generation heading into the next decade.

Over the past few years, the horror genre is having a mini-renaissance. 2018 will look to keep that momentum going with several potential showstoppers. Get Out director Jordan Peele sets to mess with moviegoers minds again with the trippy and unsettling thriller Us. September also sees the return of the Losers club in the highly anticipated follow up to the 2017 phenomenon. With so many movies set to come out this year, it's good to know that horror fans will have plenty to look forward to. Hope you got a blanket.
