Analysis
Heading in, Guardians of the Galaxy didn’t have too many eyes on it being a lot of people were just familiar with the non-marvel films outside of The Avengers that focused on members of the team. However, given Marvel’s Studios recent success, people had faith that the film would deliver the same positive effect that the other Marvel films have. Thankfully, the film did just that. The film was met with positive reviews from both fans and critics. Guardians garnered a strong 92% Certified Fresh rating from critics and an even more positive 96% fresh rating from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes. Justin Lowe of The Hollywood Reporter praised the film by saying that it was "A well-matched ensemble rises to the challenge of launching a heroic origin film with distinctive style, abundant thrills and no shortage of humor." Reviewer Richard Roeper gave the film an A-, calling it "A fun, lighthearted confection that knows exactly what it wants to be and how to execute that mission. Financially, Starlord and company dominated the weekend box office with an outstanding $94,000,000 Million opening weekend easily grabbing the #1 spot. Guardians of the Galaxy also earned $11.2 million from Thursday night showings, surpassing Marvel’s prior film Captain America: The Winter Soldier's gross of $10.2 million for the biggest Thursday evening start for a movie in 2014. Guardians of the Galaxy is clearly another big hit with fans and critics. Now the countdown starts for Marvel’s next big ASSEMBLING in May 2015.

Review
Over the course of the past two years, Marvel Studios has delivered some of the year’s best films. From the groundbreaking Avengers to the mind blowing Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Marvel is on a rocket to the top with no sign of slowing down. Their latest installment in their ever expanding Marvel Cinematic Universe, Guardians of The Galaxy, offers the studios’ first foray into films that focused on initial members of the Avengers. I was able to catch the film in IMAX 3D and I’m happy to report that the film is every bit as “MARVEL-ous” as expected. Guardians is a terrific sci-fi adventure that offers the same Marvel goodness but with a new spin. One thing I appreciated about this film is its tremendous balance. The thing I did not expect from the movie was it to start out so emotionally heavy. The opening scene was so gut wrenchingly emotional that I was almost in tears. That is an unexpected move by Marvel but one that is both bold and well executed. But from there, the film takes off with all the great action you come to expect from a movie with Marvel’s name on it. The action sequences were thrilling and spectacular especially the space fighter battle between the Ravagers and Ronan’s army above Xandar. It took me back to those space battles in Star Wars that I loved so much as a kid. Comedy is another thing the film does very well. Thanks to some great writing and well placed on screen antics, the film had me laughing out loud on numerous occasions. In terms of acting, it’s great all around. Chris Pratt continues to impress me this year with his latest film. He keeps the film light hearted while also displaying great substance and depth as Starlord. Zoe Saldana is straight up bad ass as Gamora. No stranger to roles like this, she plays the character well and makes it her own. Bradley Cooper is a riot as Rocket but despite being wise cracking and abrasive, he has a tortured essence about him that makes him vulnerable and complex. Bautista does solidly as Drax and he gives what he has but he doesn’t have the same lasting impact as the other characters. Finally Groot, played by Vin Diesel, is hands down the most likable. He’s intimidating yes, but the guy is just so lovable and full of heart. He is clearly the glue guy that keeps the movie intact. Overall, Guardians of the Galaxy is another Marvel knockout. It offers everything in a nice action packed, heartfelt, and repeatedly hilarious package. Can’t imagine what their gonna wow the world next.

Rating and Final Thoughts
Brimming with terrific action, heart, humor, emotion, adventure, and sci fi, Guardians of the Galaxy is one of the studios’ funniest and most complete films ever.

With Marvel Phase 2 officially in the books, Marvel Studios sets its sights to 2015 as it prepares to reassemble “Earth’s Mightiest Heroes” in one of the most anticipated movies in recent memory.
